  1. Jason

Ive got a few fuzzes in collection. My favorites are the types that growl, sputter, and rip. J Rockett’s WTF being a favorite, but also digging the Lovetone / JHS Big Cheese and Fender’s Pelt. I’m not a fuzz collector, though having gone through a few and discovering the WTF, I simmered down my search, but always just kept an ear out for a fuzz with better controls.

Then I heard the demo of the Dunsh on Sprial Caster Plays Pedals on YouTube. First of all, what a great demo!

Second, holy cripes, this pedal is amazing. The demo captures it well. But what’s even better is how it feels under my fingers, how well it interacts with other pedals behind it, and how versatile and easily manipulated it is! It growls, it crushes, it can cut through, it can sit back in a mix…. It’s so damn inspiring to play. It’s so damn fun to play!

AND unlike some other pedals, it’s relatively quiet, and not because of the gate. It’s just a quieter circuit. I’ve noticed a few pedals that came out of the pandemic were noisy even at low gain, low level settings… Like the Pelt, Bogner Mini Series, some ehx stuff, etc.

The eq section is perfect on this pedal. It has a pre-gain eq, so it really interacts with the sounds in more textural ways. A great move on CL’s part.

The ONLY thing I would like to see is a slightly smoother break up as the gain is pulled back; where as the note decays, the crumble does too. But that’s only an issue if you’re expecting that and want to do a low gain, smooth overdrive thing with it. I have overdrives for that, so it’s a non-issue for me.

Out of the 20+ dirt pedals I’ve bought in the past year, this is THE most inspiring to play. Maybe even the most inspiring pedal I’ve bought in the past couple of years!

Anyway, thank Champion Leccy for a pedal that exceeded my expectations and will sit on my board for years to come. It’s truly a masterpiece.
